2017 Fourth of July Parade

Alaska's 150th, Sesquicentennial Commemoration

The Board of Directors of the Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce have chosen "Alaska's 150th, Sesquicentennial Commemoration" as the Parade theme. The parade will begin at 2pm on Tuesday, July 4th and will start on Lake Street and proceed down Lincoln Street toward City Hall. 

Registration is required to participate in the parade and forms can be picked up at the Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce office at 104 Lake Street, or here:Registrations, whch must be submitted by Thursday, June 29th. Parade Entry Fee is $25.

The parade will start on Lake Street at the round-about and proceed to the stop light, turning right onto Lincoln Street and then progressing down past City Hall ending on Harbor Drive.

PARADE SAFETY RULES & GUIDELINES

PARADE BEGINS AT 2:00 PM ON TUESDAY, JULY 4, 2017!

  1. Parade officials will inspect all entries and reserve the right to eliminate any entry that is in violation of these rules.
  2. All entries must adhere to declared length of entry, and musical content submitted on application form.
  3. The parade will start at the round-about and proceed to the stop light, turning right onto Lincoln Street and then progressing down to the Katlian intersection, stopping at Totem Square.
  4. Line-up will take place on Lake Street in front of State Farm and KIFW at 1 pm. Entrants must be in the lineup no later than 1:15 pm. The parade will begin promptly at 2:00 pm.
  5. Once your entry has started along the parade route, no one may board your float.
  6. Cover all open wheels for safety (so marchers cannot snag clothing or be pulled under wheels) unless special permission has been granted.
  7. Your entry may not exit the parade route before the end of the parade.
  8. No alcohol is allowed. Sitka’s Open Container law will be strictly enforced.
  9. Entries with children under the age of 18 must be accompanied.
  10. All entries must have clear identification signage.
  11. Changes in the parade line-up the day of the parade will be at the sole discretion of the parade officials.
  12. There will not be a pre-parade meeting this year. For lineup input, please provide an email address.

A lot of time and energy goes into the organization of the Annual 4th of July Parade. The $25 registration fee is used to help cover prizes and our time and expenses. Awards for Best of Parade, Best of Theme and Most Enthusiastic will be given following the parade. Payment can be made payable to the Sitka Chamber of Commerce and submitted with your application. Thank you for your support!

Entries must be received by Wednesday, June 28, 2017. Entries received after that time will be placed at the end of the parade, no exceptions. Please return your completed entry form to the Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce.

3:00 pm       Raven Radio will host “Raven Radio’s Free Root Beer Float Post Parade Party” featuring live music and lawn games. Floats will be served at the Cable House immediately following the parade. Raven Radio 747-5877.            
4:00 pm       Rotary Duck Race- $10 per duck. Ducks will be released into Granite Creek and will float downstream to Halibut Point Recreation area. Purchase tickets at Betty Eliason parking lot July 1-4pm.

5:30 pm       Sitka Maritime Heritage Society holds its annual Fourth of July Allen Marine Cruise 5:30 to 8 pm departing from Crescent Harbor lightering float. Tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for those under the age of 13, available at Old Harbor Books. Contact 747-3448.
